Imperial Combat Group

Description

A Imperial Navy Combat Group in standard deployment. A combat group is the most common type of deployment of the Imperial Star Republic's naval forces, as opposed to the massive Pre-Gate War fleets of the past. The inclusion of smaller frigate class ships centered around a destroyer gives a combat group a much needed boost to situational flexibility, as opposed to the slower, more cruiser-centric doctines of the past. Taking the lessons of the Battle of Foer to heart, Imperial shipyards have designed and built new warships that toss the old philosophies of stationary tactics with heavy armor and un-wieldly heavy weapons aside. Instead the designs have shifted towards intercepting and engage the faster, smaller enemy ships of the modern era.

So yeah. Here's a bunch of ships that I've been working on for a really long time because my older starships are just terrible. Figured I'd do a big group shot of them all before I release the individual images with much better lore-fluff. The current description will most likely change when I think of something better to put there. With some more 'filler text because I don't have names for all of them and don't want to reveal the names here' text:the large ship in the center is the destroyer, the two ships above and below are heavy frigates, the two ships on the outer edges of the formation are Support/Multirole frigates, with the six smaller ships being regular frigates and the two smallest being light frigates.

I also base my ship classifications around the Homeworld style, where size wise from biggest to smallest went: Heavy crusier > Destroyer > Frigate > Corvette > Fighter.

Built in DOGA, background taken with Space Engine.

Nice job. Cohesive designs across the group, well-balanced details. I look forward to the individual fluffery.
